Monastery of Sinaia.
A boyar called Mihai Cantacuzino, being impressed by what he had seen on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, decided that upon his return home to Wallachia (one of the three Romanian Principalities at the time) he would build a monastery devoted to the Virgin Mary, which should bear the name of Mount Sinai. What he constructed was the Monastery of Sinaia,
also called 'the Cathedral of the Carpathians', which,
since 1695, has been watching over the PrahovaValleyat the foot ofMount Furnica on the Bucegi massif ofthe southern Carpathians. Over time, a locality bearing the same name developed around this monastery. After the construction of royal palaces in the 19th century, Sinaia started being visited by well-off families who came there to spend their holidays and contributed
to the
development
of the tourist characteristics of the locality. At present, apart from the sports practiced onthe mountain slopes, you can also enjoy a trip back into history.

Peles Castle.
On August 22nd 1875 they laid the foundation stone of the castle, which would soon become the symbol of Sinaia. The 170 rooms of the first castle in Europe to be electrified houses one of the most valuable
collections of paintings, as well as weapons and rare books.
Peles Castle it is the summer residence of Romania's kings, it is similar to Windsor castle in the UK, or Versailles France. It is a key monument for the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century, the castle being enlarged and redecorated over the course of a few decades starting
in 1873 and ending in 1914, upon the death of Carol the first. It is a symbol of the Romanian Royal house, a dream of King Carol the first, who viewed the royal house as important for the destiny of modern Romania, a nation viewing itself through the lens of Western Europe. From architectural and decorative points of view, it is one of the most important European monuments, illustrating Historicism the mid 19th century, a trend present across Europe
through the special care given to artifacts and architectural elements of the past through creative interpretation.* * *

Pelisor Castle.
Pelisor Castle completes the impression of timelessness that hangs over the Peles Valley. Located a few hundreds metres from the Peles castle, it has the air of a Swiss chalet, rather than acastle. In spite of this, the Pelisor castle, with its German Renaissance architecture, with its towers covered with enameled tiles in lively colours, with its artistically decorated rooms, is a real castle which is to be permanently
lived-in during the summer. Even from the very start, it was the residence of the crown princes, Ferdinand and Marie. They raised their children here: Carol, Elisabeth the queen ofGreece, Marioara, the queen of Yugoslavia and Prince Nicolae. Since 1993, visitors have had the opportunity to see the princely and royal apartments, the working rooms, the children's rooms, Queen Marie's painting studio, as well as the
small Byzantine chapel arranged inside the building. Recently the castle was refurbished, with the public being able to enjoy the redecorated rooms, complete with original pieces and replicas to recreate the atmosphere of the turn of the last century.
